According to a report by The Sun Nigeria on 20th June 2026, the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has accused Peter Obi of not speaking out on the issues of insecurity and the sit-at-home orders in the South East zone.
Umahi believed that Obi’s silence on these matters was problematic and reflected a lack of leadership qualities needed for the presidency.
He stated that Obi cannot become Nigeria’s President through deceitful tactics. The minister emphasized that credible leadership should be based on truth, accountability, and a verifiable record of service. He suggested that Obi needs to imbibe these qualities if he aspires to lead Nigeria.
He said, “I know his position on IPOB. I know the disagreement between him and Nnamdi Kanu. I know his feelings and the actions he took, which he was entitled to take.”
He addressed these issues publicly while inspecting a section of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Superhighway in Lagos State. He also clarified that reports of Obi vowing to stop President Tinubu’s legacy projects if elected were untrue.
Lastly, the minister recalled his time as Deputy Governor and Governor, noting his knowledge of Obi’s stance on IPOB and his relationship with Nnamdi Kanu. He urged Obi to be truthful about his position and criticized his desire for power at all costs.
