Peter Obi: I Know His Position On IPOB. I Know The Quarrel Between Him And Nnamdi Kanu — Umahi

Minister of Works David Umahi has asserted that he knows Peter Obi’s stance on IPOB and the personal conflict between Obi and detained separatist leader Nnamdi Kanu, arguing that Obi has not been honest with the Southeast on the issue.

In a video posted by Channels Television, speaking during an inspection of Section 2 of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Superhighway in Ekpe, Lagos State, Umahi responded to social media reports that Obi had promised to stop President Tinubu’s legacy infrastructure projects if elected president.

He said such a position would be rejected by Nigerians and accused Obi of avoiding clarity on matters affecting the Southeast, including the Monday sit-at-home order.

Umahi recalled serving as deputy governor when Obi was governor of Anambra State and chairman of the Southeast Governors’ Forum. He maintained that Obi should own his record instead of downplaying Kanu’s statements as harmless.

According to Umahi, while Southeast governors are working to secure peace in the region and exploring political options to help Kanu, the thousands of lives lost in the Southeast cannot be ignored.

He criticized Obi for not speaking directly on the sit-at-home order and said the desire to become president by all means is not good for the people. Umahi stressed that Nigerians deserve the truth.

He also defended the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Superhighway as a symbol of President Tinubu’s long-term development vision. He challenged Obidient supporters to compare Tinubu’s master plan for Lagos as governor with Obi’s record in Anambra beyond his tenure to judge their capacity for national leadership.

In his words, “You know I was deputy governor when my brother Peter Obi, His Excellency, was governor of Anambra State. And he was also the chairman of the Southeast Governors’ Forum. And I know his position on IPOB. I know the quarrel between him and Nnamdi Kanu.”

“I know his feelings and all that he did, which is what you’re supposed to be, but he should be man enough to own it and not come and tell Nigerians oh this man (Nnamdi Kanu) did not say anything; he was just uh talking, which is harmless, you know.”
