When starchy foods are cooked at high temperatures, a compound called acrylamide is formed. This can happen during frying, baking, roasting, and toasting. Fried starchy foods are especially high in acrylamide. According to Healthline,Acrylamide destroys DNA and causes cell death. Fried food consumption increases your chances of type 2 diabetes and obesity. These disorders can increase your cancer risk by causing oxidative stress and inflammation.
2. Overcooked foods.
Overcooking foods, especially meats, can produce carcinogens. Cooking meat with high heat creates carcinogenic PAHs and heterocyclic amines (HCAs). These substances may increase the risk of cancer by altering the DNA of your cells. You’re more likely to overcook foods when you cook at high temperatures or over an open flame.
Dairy may increase the risk of prostate cancer. Eating dairy increases levels of an insulin-like growth factor. This can increase the proliferation, or production, of prostate cancer cells. Dairy foods include products like milk, cheese, and yogurt.
4. Refined carbohydrates and sugar.
Sugary meals and refined carbohydrates can raise your cancer risk indirectly. Consuming a lot of sugary, starchy meals may increase your chances of acquiring type 2 diabetes and obesity. Both conditions promote inflammation and oxidative stress which make you more susceptible to certain cancers.
When you drink alcohol, your liver converts it to acetaldehyde, a carcinogen. Acetaldehyde causes oxidative stress and DNA damage. It also affects your immune system, making it more difficult for your body to identify precancerous and cancerous cells.
