
Alex is part of the Transportation Group together with being lead partner in the Korean business team. His interests include Europe, the Middle East, Brazil, and Korea. Alex was made a partner of the company in 1991 and is currently co-lead of the Korean business team alongside his role as partner in the Transportation Group.

He has been involved in two high-profile cases that are scheduled to go before the House of Lords, namely the Giannis NK and Hill Harmony cases. The Hill Harmony case determines what rights the captain and charter company have in determining a ships route. The Giannis NK case is a leading case on the transportation of dangerous goods by sea.
Other significant cases include Zenovia (2009) EWHC 739 (Comm) regarding notice of intent to redeliver a cargo, Cenk Kapatoganlu (2012) EWHC 273 (Comm) regarding setting aside a contract due to economic duress, Lory (2019) EWHC 2804 regarding where an innocent party can claim damages if they suffered no actual loss, and the Grand Ace 12 case (2019) EWHC 928 relating to requirements for an exclusive jurisdiction clause.
Alex is recognized as a leading lawyer in the shipping industry. He is highly reputed after representing many of the world’s top companies in their respective field, and continues to be the lead lawyer for Reed Smith’s relationship with many of the most valuable shipbuilding, offshore, and infrastructure projects in the world. Alex also assists ship brokers and managers with legal issues that may arise.
