Early life and career

Blossoming Branch in Georgia is where Carter began his life. She attended Buford High School in Georgia, where she played basketball under the tutelage of renowned coach Gene Durden, who was also the teacher for the class in which she created the multimedia presentation. She led the Ladies Wolves to three consecutive Class 2A state championships (2009-2011) and averaged 13 points per game in those years, making her one of the most important contributors to their success. She was unable to play during her senior year due to an injury. Still, the Class of 2012 listed her as the No. 21 rookie in the nation, and she earned a scholarship to play for the University of Tennessee women’s basketball team.

Before joining the Lady Vols, she was a big fan of the team and its coach, Pat Summitt. She was one of the last players to sign with Summit. She was one of the last players to sign. Carter played five games in the 2012-13 season before withdrawing with an injury. She led the league in steals with 80 in 2014-15 and was named to the SEC All-Rookie Team in 2013-14. She was forced to retire after a redshirt junior season in 2015-16 due to a growing number of illnesses, ending her hopes of one day playing in the WNBA. During her time with the Volunteers, Carter had 199 steals and averaged 6.4 points per game.
