Manchester United are yet to complete their second transfer after completing the deal foe Ajax midfield maestro Donny Van De Beek. Since his capture, things have slowly gone quiet at Old Trafford. Their hot pursuit of Jadon Sancho is well recorded but Borussia Dortmund have insisted that he is not for sale this season and will remain at the Signal Induna park for another season.
Recent breaking news is that former United forward Memphis Depay is on the move to Barcelona. The Lyon forward is seen as the ideal replacement for outgoing Luis Suarez at the Blaugrana club. The Catalan giants are on a rebuild process with new manager Ronald Koeman tearing the club down before building it back up. He sees Depay as an ideal addition to the club having worked with him in the National team. According to the most reliable transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona have already agreed with him. They just need to contact Lyon to final ise the deal.
Barcelona’s gain is United’s loss. United had the first refusal clause inserted in his contract when they agreed to sell him to Lyon. That means if Lyon wanted to sell him they will first contact United who will then decide if they are going to sign him or not. Looks like United passed up that chance. It will be a huge loss for United who are in the market for a world class forward.
Depay ticks all those boxes at the moment as he has completely revitalised his career at Lyon. He would have been a huge addition at United at the moment with their failure to sign Sancho. He would have also been a cheaper option. His time at United was not good the first time but then there was a different manager and a different brand of football. Now United’s play suits his style and it would have been a huge opportunity for both parties to rectify their first mistakes.
