Dave Grohl will debut as the fourth member of the James Gang — Joe Walsh on vocals and guitar, drummer Jim Fox and bassist Dale Peters — marking the band’s first collaboration in 15 years. The performance, titled “The Last Ride,” was announced Monday morning as part of Walsh’s annual VetsAid concert.

The show, which will take place at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio, on November 13, will also feature sets from Nine Inch Nails, Black Keys, and Breeders. All proceeds will go directly to veterans’ service charities.

This year’s lineup focuses on Ohio musicians: James Gang and NIN (both raised in Cleveland); Akron’s Black Keys, Dayton’s breeder, and finally Warren-born Grohl. Comedian and Cleveland-born Drew Carey will host the annual event for the third time.

“It all started in Ohio,” Walsh wrote in a statement. “Picking up my first guitar in Columbus as a kid took me on a musical journey to Kent State, Cleveland, and around the world. Now, I’m honored to have the opportunity to reunite with my original James Gang mates and this group of absolute Incredible Ohio rock legends shares the stage like Trent Reznor and Nine Inch Nails, Black Keys, The Breeders, and Dave Grohl. I believe in Ohio State and look forward to celebrating our musical legacy while at the same time through VetsAid 2022 Salute to our veterans.”

Since the tragic death of his bandmate Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, Grohl has slowly re-entered the stage. Earlier this year, Hawkins died unexpectedly at the age of 50 during a performance by the band in Bogota, Colombia.

The Foos and the Hawkins family recently announced two tribute shows, set to take place in London on September 3rd and Los Angeles on September 27th. The events will include performances by friends and influencers of the late drummer: Brian May and Roger Taylor of Queen, Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson of Rush, Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme, Mark Ronson, Stewart Copeland of Police, Wolfgang Van Halen, Chris Chaney of Jane’s Addiction, veteran jazz/rock drummer Omar Hakim, Queen touring member Rufus Taylor and Hawkins’ cover band Chevrolet Metal will perform at both shows.
