Emerging details have it that Governor of Osun State, Gboyega Oyetola has become embroiled in a running fight with one of the leaders of State Boys, the street muscles fiercely loyal to Minister Rauf Aregbesola.
The information available revealed that this development resulted in a major face-off between Oyetola’s security team and followers of Asiri Eniba, the leader of the State Boys on Sunday, January 17, 2021.
According to information monitored by societynow.ng on dailypost.ng “Asiri Eniba gang members blocked the route of Governor Oyetola’s convoy and engaged his security at old-garage in the evening of Sunday.
An eyewitness told DAILY POST that the gunshot was so much that later forced the convoy to take another route.”
The immediate cause of the attack on Oyetola’s convoy on Sunday has roots in humiliation at an event that made Eniba, one of the prominent faces of dreaded State Boys leave the place according to the details provided by Dailypost.ng.
Asiri Eniba is also the chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) Oroki Branch.
This position enables him to provide foot soldiers for the cause(s) of the State Boys.
The State Boys were put together by Aregbesola when he was Governor of Osun state to serve as “off the book” security structure for the government.
They played a pivotal role in helping Aregbesola get a firm grip on local politics, especially as regards containing the use of thugs by opposition parties.
The State Boys provided street supports in the election that brought Oyetola to office.
This reportedly earned them recognition and the grace of enjoying the favor of his administration.
“But the State Boys remain beholden to Aregbesola as the person who breathed life into the group. They are fiercely loyal to the former governor” societynow.ng learned.
The belief is that the cold war for supremacy between Aregbesola and Oyetola is rubbing off Oyetola’s rapport with the State Boys.
“But the specifics of what is amiss remain shrouded” societynow.ng learned.
However, reporting attempts to get official comments on Sunday’s face-off between Oyetola and the State Boys, Dailypost.ng wrote “..operatives of Amotekun corps have taken over the Old-garage and Ola-Iya motor parks since Monday.
Contacting the Special Adviser to the governor on security, Mrs Abiodun Ige, she denied knowing anything about the attack. She said she was not aware of any attack on the governor.
Ige said, “I was not with the convoy on Sunday, and I am not aware of any faceoff or attack on the governor. You can contact the commander of Amotekun to find out why they blocked the parks.”
Speaking with the Field Commander of Amotekun in the state, Comrade Shittu Amitolu, he told DAILY POST that the corps decision to block the parks was due to intelligence reports gathered that illegal drug dealings were transpiring inside the commercial motor parks.”
