Eden Prairie mall shooting today

Just before 7:30 p.m. on Monday, police were contacted in response to allegations of an “active shooter” at the Eden Prairie mall. Known for selling firearms and rifles, sporting goods retailer Scheels is where the incident took place.

Officers found a “young male” suffering from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head on the second level of Scheels when they arrived at the shopping center. At the scene, he was identified as deceased.

The deceased’s identification wasn’t immediately clear.

There were no additional reported injuries despite the early allegations of an “active shooter” prompting a major emergency reaction to the mall. As a precaution, the mall was placed on lockdown, and Eden Prairie Schools’ buildings and offices were briefly placed on stay-put lockdown.

“The location has been guarded. The general public is not in danger, according to a statement from Eden Prairie Police.
