Investigations after the incident led to the recovery of a firearm, three magazines, a hatchet, gasoline, four smoke grenades, and a bag of consumer fireworks. There was no evidence that the gun was stolen, according to the police.
A credit card was also recovered from the scene, and the card was claimed to have been used to rent a U-Haul. A police report says the shooter had keys to the vehicle in his possession. In the late afternoon of 12 April 2022, investigators traced the vehicle to Gravesend, Brooklyn, just five miles from the subway station. They began investigating whether the vehicle had any connections to the suspect.
