Google, a major player in the US tech industry, has started a campaign on the Android website urging Apple to switch from the antiquated SMS and MMS messaging protocols to RCS. According to Google, this won’t negatively impact users’ ability to communicate within the Apple ecosystem, but it will enhance messaging between Android and iPhone models. Google launches

According to Google, Apple’s current technology does not permit user communication over Wi-Fi. According to Google, this may become problematic if a user doesn’t have strong cell reception. The company adds that when texting with Android users, Apple does not display read receipts, does not indicate whether the person you are texting is typing, and displays broken group chats. The images and videos shared via messages are currently both highly compressed and not encrypted. It should be noted that while all the aforementioned features are available in Apple’s iMessage, these problems only apply to cross-platform communication.

Google has since highlighted external instant messaging services like WhatsApp and Signal. These messaging services enable iPhone and Android smartphone users to text each other without using SMS because they are compatible with both Android and iOS. Google has also released a few screenshots of users criticising Apple for not taking the initiative to adopt RCS. In the US, where texting is still popular, Android users who text iPhone owners who have access to iMessage may experience a degraded experience.

The colour of message bubbles on Apple’s Messages app has also been discussed by Google. According to Google, iPhone models make it challenging for users of Android smartphones to read texts because Apple uses white text on a vibrant green background. Apple has not yet acknowledged any plans to incorporate the RCS protocol into its Messages app for iOS and iPadOS or responded to Google’s online campaign requesting that it adopt RCS.
