A heartbreaking video released by the royal family has exposed the grief of King Charles as he bid farewell to his “dear mum” in an emotional address to his subjects.
The video, shared by the royal family on TikTok, shows the new king with sadness on his face as he ends his speech when he asks the camera crew “Am I done?”
The video went viral, with online royal watchers noting that the monarch looked “very vulnerable”.
“No matter how old you are,” another user noted, “the loss of a parent is painful.”
“You can see the pain in his eyes. You can’t help but feel it with him,” said another.
A body language expert says King Charles’ speech shows the new king shedding the traditional “stiff upper lip” and openly sharing his grief – and explaining her thoughts on the meaning behind the olive branch extending to Harry and Meghan .
Judy James told the Daily Mail that Charles’ direct, emotional approach “has never been seen by the current monarch”.
“Gone are the traditional upper lip stiffness, stoicism and repressed emotions, replaced by verbal and nonverbal signals of personal affection and extreme sadness,” James said.
James noted that the new king gave one of the few warm smiles in his somber speech when referring to his “dear wife Camilla”.
James, noting Charles’ remarks about his children, said the king expressed “the pride and confidence with which he mentioned William and Catherine”.
“Then he talked about his ‘love’ for Harry and Meghan. The comment brought a long pause and his eyes fell into a sad, regretful severance ritual,” James noted, “because he seemed to allow a small Small sigh before continuing.”
She said that when His Majesty addressed his “dear mum” directly, he changed his pose to reflect his transition into his new role.
“He spoke as a son, but he also addressed the nation as the new king,” James said.
“It’s here that he seems to flex his shoulders when his chin sticks out slightly, showing that he has some determination to go down low.”
