Based on the classic 1989 film starring Winona Ryder and Christian Slater, the musical is based on Westerberg high school students Veronica Sawyer, the beautiful and cruel Heathers, and mysterious rebel Jason “JD” Dean. Elsa Davidson (Veronica), Simon Gordon (JD), Madison Firth (Heather Chandler), Vivian Panka (Heather Duke), and Taylor Rey Hughes (Heather McNamara) starred in the musical.

Andy Fickman directs the musical, with books, music, and lyrics written by Kevin Murphy and Lawrence O’Keefe. Fickman, Murphy, and O’Keefe will be producing with Village Roadshow Pictures (VRP) and Bill Kenwright’s BKStudios. “Heathers: The Musical” will be filmed at The Other Palace, which debuted in the UK in 2018.

ABC announced Tuesday that Mel Dandridge, Josh Randall, and Pat Healy have been promoted to series regulars for Season 6 of “Station 19.” Dandridge (“Greenleaf”, “The Flight Attendant”) plays lead Natasha Ross in the latest season of Seattle’s “Grey’s Anatomy” spinoff. First Responder Drama also found Randall (“Ozark,” “Westworld”) as Captain Sean Beckett, a career firefighter with a drinking problem. Finally, Healy (“Killer of the Flower Moon”, “Bad Education”) will play former CEO, Michael Dixon.

Freeform’s new unscripted series “The Come Up,” one of three original nonfiction series released by the network this year, announced its cast today. Joining the new collection are Taofeek Abijako, Fernando Casablancas, Ben Hard, Claude Shwartz, Ebon Trower, and Sophia Wilson. Each new member is robbery in their respective fields of modeling, fashion design, photography, acting, and nightlife organization. “The Come Up” is a glimpse into the feelings and moments that define adulthood as creative in post-pandemic New York. Six young New Yorkers follow their dreams and pursue love and art on their own terms. The series will premiere on Freeform on Tuesday, September 13, with the first four episodes running consecutively. After that, two episodes will air each week. All episodes will be available on Hulu the day after they air.

FilmRise has acquired the digital distribution rights to all 21 seasons of Goldstein Pictures Corporation’s “Cheaters.” The package includes more than 1,000 episodes of the reality series, which premiered in 2000, and focuses on people who think their significant other is cheating on them, so they hire the “Liar Detective Agency” to investigate the situation. “Cheaters” is currently available on VH1 and Pluto TV in the US, as well as on the FilmRise app, The Roku Channel, and Amazon’s FreeVee. The deal was negotiated on behalf of Goldstein Pictures Corporation by Max Einhorn of FilmRise and Jeff Goldman of Octopean Media.

BBC Studios has appointed Janet Brown and Tara Metra to two newly created executive positions, the company announced on Tuesday. Brown, who previously worked at independent entertainment studio Gunpowder & Sky, was named President of Content Distribution for North America and Latin America. In this role, Brown will create the vision and set the strategic direction to drive the continued growth of BBC Studios’ diverse commercial presence in the region. Meanwhile, Maitra has been promoted to Chief Commercial Officer of Global Distribution. Previously Chief Commercial Officer at BBC Studios Americas, Maitra now oversees global syndication and advertising sales as well as business transformation and digital business development. Brown and Maitra will be based in New York and report directly to Rebecca Glashow, CEO of Global Distribution.
