House of the Dragon tops STV viewing (and crashes HBO Max in US) » Olite

House of the Dragon had a winning launch on FOX Showcase yesterday drawing 115,000 national viewers plus another 85,000 in a second screening and a further 66,000 in a third.

That topped other STV shows AFL 360 (84,000), Live NRL 360 (61,000) and On the Couch (45,000).

But they only indicate the Live viewers with numbers and none of Binge. They will doubtless rise rapidly with BVOD across 7 days of viewing.

By comparison The Twelve drew 70,000 when it topped STV last Tuesday, meaning the launch looks promising if smaller than Game of Thrones numbers of the past. So far the show seems to have been well received by both critics and fans.

In the USA itdrew 9.986 million viewers across linear and HBO Max platforms, the largest audience for any new original series in its history.

But there were echoes of the past when HBO Max seemed to crash for some avid fans, which was linked to Amazon Fire devices.

“House of the Dragon is being successfully viewed by millions of HBO Max subscribers this evening,” HBO said in a statement. “We’re aware of a small portion of users attempting to connect via Fire TV devices that are having issues and are in the process of resolving for those impacted users.”

Ironically, an automated tweet rom HBO Help was sent to the official HBO Max account, in an effort to offer a customer fix. It has since been deleted.
