Do not Overspeed

Excessive speeding is, of course, dangerous. No one can ignore that fact. But if you think that speeding only means going excessively over the speed limit, think again! Exceeding the speed limit by only five or ten miles per hour can make a life-or-death difference in a car crash. Imagine hitting a tree on a curve in the road and being unable to gain control of your car because you were speeding – and going just over the safe speed limit. It can really make a difference in the safe handling of your vehicle, and in your ability to brake effectively when you need to.

If you’ve been injured in an accident that involved speeding, you know what it can do to your life. You know how devastating it can be. So how can we avoid speeding, or driving around those that are speeding?

First, think about why people exceed the speed limit. They usually: Think it’s okay because they’re not going to get caught.

In a hurry to get to where they’re going because they’re running late and haven’t planned properly. Simply don’t care about the rules of the road and don’t think they apply to them. Are distracted and not paying attention to their speed.

Over-estimate their driving skill, and think that they are driving safely even if they are speeding.

Do not drink and drive.

Alcohol is a substance that reduces the function of the brain, impairing thinking, reasoning, and muscle coordination. All these abilities are essential to operating a vehicle safely.

Driving after drinking is deadly. Yet it still continues to happen all over. If you drive while impaired, you could get arrested, or worse be involved in a traffic crash that causes serious injury or death.
