The Dutchman found the net at one end, heading home an Andy Robertson corner to make it 2-1 to the Reds in the opening stages, but just moments later he failed to clear a ball over the top, ‘arrogantly’ trying to flick it to Robertson out wide.
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has now labeled the action ‘arrogant’ and he criticized Liverpool’s defending in the first half.
“It’s a brilliant game,” he said on Sky Sports.
“I said hopefully after 17 minutes we’d get 90 minutes of this. This could be 7-7 at the end of the game.
“Alisson is not happy, he gets between the center-backs there. Virgil van Dijk, that’s just too arrogant.
“Just tries to flick it round the corner to Andy Robertson instead of dealing with it.
“Maybe that comes with the fact it’s Leeds, new team, maybe takes it a little bit too easy.
“But I’ll tell you what, Patrick Bamford, he’s had one chance through on goal, he’s been given a gift by that man.
“Two chances, one goal, he’ll take that if he continues like that this season.”
The Reds went on to win the match 4-3 in the 88th minute through a Mohamed Salah penalty after Mateusz Klich equalized for the Whites.
