Johnny Depp will be unforgettable at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards.
A source close to the show’s production confirmed to The Washington Post that the 59-year-old star will be dressed as a real-life Moonman, the silver astronaut statue that the VMA winner received.
Jack Sparrow’s team declined to comment when contacted by The Washington Post, but our insider said the actor has been locked down from video appearances.
Sources say Depp is “very excited” to appear at the VMAs — and he’s “ready for a comeback.”
When he joins rocker Jeff Baker on a summer European tour, it will be Depp’s first appearance on camera since his libel case against ex-wife Amber Heard became public.
Depp won the case legally, but Hurd’s team has since appealed a jury verdict of more than $10 million in damages to Depp. In July, nearly two months after the case, thousands of shocking documents that had been sealed were made public – including texts between Depp and Marilyn Manson, as well as his team’s apparent attempt to bring up his ex-wife. “Short Experience as an Exotic Dancer” in Trial.
Depp will appear at an event Sunday at 8 p.m. at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ, where LL Cool J, Nicki Minaj and Jack Harlow will all serve as hosts.
Minaj will also receive a Video Pioneer Award, and red peppers will accept Global Icon Award.
Harlow, Kendrick Lamar and Lil Nas X received the most nominations with seven each. Doja Cat and Harry Styles followed with six nominations each, while Billie Eilish, Drake, Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift and The Weeknd each received five nominations.
Performers will include Blackpink, J Balvin, Lizzo and Panic! at the disco.
