She may never be a princess – but she’s definitely a little drama queen.
A 5-year-old schoolgirl has been filmed crying hysterically as she realises she won’t grow up to be a princess – but will have to do “boring chores” like her mum. A video of the disillusioned young man in Scotland’s epic meltdown is currently circulating as viewers express sympathy for her plight.
Catherine Stafford-Grimley, 25, told Kennedy News of her child’s “dramatic” reaction: “I think a 5-year-old would worry about these things, it’s very interesting.”
The Erskine resident said the breakdown occurred after her daughter Órla McEvity saw her cleaning the house and asked her why she was doing it.
The young man was taken aback when his mother explained that adults had to do chores.
“I explained that when you grow up, you have to do chores, so she panics and realizes it’s not fun being an adult,” explains Stafford-Grimley. “Once she realized that growing up wasn’t everything, she started to feel uneasy.”
She added: “She thought she would grow up to be a princess instead of doing housework.”
In the accompanying half-minute clip, Stafford-Grimley asks her heartbroken offspring why she’s “unhappy growing up”.
“Because then I have to do all the boring stuff,” McVeity Jr responded between sobbing, adding, “I have to go get food, I have to do the dishes.”
The little showman continued: “It’s boring, isn’t it? It’s boring.”
Stafford-Grimley reportedly “suddenly laughs inwardly” in the video, claiming her offspring have always hated housework.
“I thought she would pick me up because I’m not particularly into housework,” explained the confused mother, adding that would-be Cinderella once felt like they were dying after being asked to clean their house.
In fact, McEvity has reportedly been dramatic about a lot of things. The Scot explained that after the footage stopped rolling, “she said she would never grow up and there was no way to stop her legs from growing taller.”
“I told her we can’t stop growing and her legs will continue to grow,” explains Stafford-Grimley. “I said we all have to grow up, it’s part of life and she asked why she had to be born, again very dramatic.”
She added, “Eventually I reassured her and said being an adult can be really fun, but sometimes you have to tell a white lie.”
The video was reportedly popular with mom’s family and friends, who suggested she keep it for McVeity’s 18th birthday, according to Kennedy News.
“Some people couldn’t stop laughing, while others kept replaying it and sharing it with family and friends,” Stafford-Grimley said. “Some people say they have a crush on Órla and how much they wish she didn’t have to grow up.”
In 2018, a “demon” child screamed for a heartbreaking eight hours on a flight from Germany to New Jersey when a far less amusing toddler lost his temper.
