Why Was Liza Minnelli In A Wheelchair?
Throughout her life, Minnelli has had to deal with a number of difficulties with her health, all of which have likely contributed to her needing the use of a wheelchair to get around. In the year 2006, Minnelli stated: “I have got two false hips, a wired-up knee, scoliosis, which I have always had, and 3 crushed disks.”
In the month of October 2000, when she was 54-years-old, Minnelli was admitted to the hospital with a case of viral encephalitis which, the NHS, says in “an uncommon but severe condition in which the brain becomes inflamed (swollen).” She had been admitted to Cleveland Clinic in Fort Lauderdale, Florida after she comes up to have had a stroke. Minnelli was seemingly discharged a week later but was readmitted once again after 3 days.

What illness is Liza Minnelli suffering?
At the time, a clinic official stated: “We discovered her semi-conscious on the floor, disorientated and suffering from what we believe was a possible stroke.” Minnelli was diagnosed with viral encephalitis when she came back to the hospital for a 2nd time. The NHS says that the signs of encephalitis can start with flu-like symptoms, like a high temperature and a headache, but in the coming hours, days, or weeks, more severe symptoms can develop which include:
- Confusion Or disorientation
- Loss of consciousness
- Seizures or fits
- Difficulty speaking
- Weakness or loss of movement in some parts of the body
- Changes in personality and behavior
In an interview with NBC’s Dateline in the year 2004, Minnelli stated: “I could not walk and I could not talk, and they told me I would not…ever again. After I was informed that, everybody left the room and I turned my face to the wall and began to go, “A, B. C”.
