Man Who Allegedly Killed Teen in Politically Motivated Attack Released on Bond

Shannon Brandt, the man who reportedly confessed to killing a North Dakota teenager, has been released on bail, according to reports news report.

Brant, 41, was released on $50,000 bond after spending several days in the Stussman County Jail on criminal charges related to the death of 18-year-old Cayler Ellingson.

Brandt was arrested Sunday after telling state paramedic radio that he โ€œattacked pedestrians because they threatened him.โ€

โ€œBrant said pedestrians called some people and Brandt was afraid they would come to him,โ€ according to an affidavit of probable cause. โ€œBrant admitted to national radio that he hit a pedestrian who was a member of a Republican extremist group.โ€

Police said Brandt was allegedly intoxicated at the time.

โ€œBrandt admitted hitting a pedestrian with his car because he had a political argument with the pedestrian and believed the pedestrian was calling for people to pick him up,โ€ the court document continued. Return shortly after calling 911.โ€

Brandt allegedly went after Ellingson after a politically charged brawl at a street festival in McHenry.
