Mike Hopkins, director of special events and logistics for CBS News, died suddenly on Tuesday.
CBS Mornings co-host Gayle King made the announcement on today’s morning show.
“Mike Hopkins is a guy you can call anything,” King said. “Whenever CBS News sends our team to cover an event like a presidential debate or a natural disaster, it’s ‘Hops,’ ‘Hoppy,’ they call him, I like to call him Mike, and he makes sure everything and everyone is there It has to be,” said Gail King. “He’s worked behind the scenes and around the world for CBS News for the past 38 years. The remote, as we call it, wouldn’t be the same without him.”
Former CBS Evening News executive producer Steve Capps also took to Twitter to pay tribute to his former colleague.
