
Saw a report that Paul Herman, the actor who played Beansie in “The Sopranos” and Whispers in “The Irishman” (among many, many other roles) passed away today. Rest In Peace.
Paul Herman (March 29, 1946 – March 29, 2022) was an American actor. His credits include playing Randy in David O. Russell’s dramatic Silver Linings Playbook (2012) and Whispers DiTullio in Martin Scorsese’s crime epic The Irishman (2019).
His other film credits include Once Upon a Time in America, Up Close, We Own the Night, Heatwave, Crazy Heart, Fast Change, Sleeper, Police Land, The Fan , “Analyzing That,” “The Day-tripper” and “American Hustle.” He played Peter “Beansie” Gaeta on The Sopranos and accountant Marvin as Vincent Chase on HBO’s Entourage.

Herman also had supporting roles in two other Scorsese crime films. In Goodfellas, he’s the Pittsburgh Connection, and in Scorsese Casino’s montage sequence of “Going Home Years Ago,” he’s a gambler who rushes under a phone booth to meet Sam Rothstein (Robert De Niro) Same bet.
In 2009’s “Crazy Heart,” Herman played Jeff Bridges’ character manager.
In the 1990s, Herman ran Columbus Cafe with his brother Charlie. Located across from Lincoln Center, it is frequented by actors, ballerinas, gangsters, and FBI and DEA agents. Herman and Mikhail Baryshnikov and other actors also have a small share in the cafe.
Herman passed away on March 29, 2022 at the age of 76.
