A 55-year-old woman of Ukrainian descent was the victim. Ghanaian male age 27 was the assailant. Due to the police’s quick action after being notified by a resident, the attack that occurred in broad daylight was stopped and the suspect was taken into custody.

Georgia Meloni, the head of Italy’s far-right Fratelli d’Italia party, published a video on Twitter that Twitter later removed. This caused a political schism in Italy, and Georgia Meloni is coming under fire for posting the video.

The s3x*al assault occurred early on Sunday morning when a 55-year-old Ukrainian woman was r*ped on a pavement by a 27-year-old asylum seeker from Guinea who was subsequently arrested.

The video was widely condemned including by Piacenza mayor Katia Tarasconi who said it was “chilling that a woman on her own was attacked by a cowardly criminal”, adding however that she hoped the nationality of the offender would “not be exploited”.

Italian daily Il Messaggero’s footage of the r@pe was used in a tweet by Meloni on Sunday night. Meloni is widely expected to succeed Matteo Renzi as prime minister of Italy after the country’s general election on September 25.

Massive backlash against Meloni’s post came from both the general public and opposition politicians.

Enrico Letta, the leader of the centrist Partito Democratico (PD), claimed that publishing photographs of a r*pe were “indecent” and that doing it for political gain was even more repugnant. Always put respect for people and for victims first.

Reporting a r*pe is an obligation, as centrist Azione party head Carlo Calenda stated on Twitter. Above all, showing it for political reasons is immoral and disrespectful to the victim, who undoubtedly would not want to be exposed in this way on social media. Giorgia Meloni, you are to be blamed.
