TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – An active shooter was reported at a hotel on Route 9 early on Sunday morning, prompting the response of many law enforcement authorities. The victim who was found by the police had suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
A report of a shooter in active pursuit at the Courtyard by Marriott hotel located on South Road (Route 9) just before 8:00 a.m. prompted emergency services officials to react to the scene. The suspect was reportedly armed with a long gun. A victim who had suffered numerous gunshot wounds was given cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the way to a nearby hospital in an ambulance.
Initial radio communications indicate that one suspect has been apprehended and is currently being held in custody. While some officers started searching rooms one at a time, other police SWAT teams from two different agencies were called into action and responded to the command center that had been established in a parking area close to the hotel.
A cop informed the other officers at roughly nine in the morning that the suspect’s room, which was listed as room 143, had been found. The chamber was checked out for any potential dangers and then locked away till further notice. At nine in the morning, members of the SWAT teams began the process of evacuating hotel guests from their rooms.
To ensure the safety of the location, several law enforcement personnel were sent in the direction of the adjacent Locust Grove property. This weekend, due to Marist College’s “Family Weekend,” the hotel, along with most others in the vicinity, has received a full complement of reservations from visitors.
On the southbound side of South Road (Route 9), two lanes were designated exclusively for use by emergency vehicles.
