Based on the 992-generation 911 GT3, the GT3 R is equipped with a water-cooled, flat-six engine that has been bored out to 4.2 litres from 4.0 litres in the road vehicle. Porsche has also modified the suspension of the 911 GT3 R, drawing heavily from the suspension configuration of the outgoing 911 RSR. It has a double-wishbone front suspension and a multi-link rear suspension. KW shock absorbers with five adjustment options are also included. Its wheelbase has been extended by 48mm compared to its predecessor. The 911 GT3 R also features AP Racing brake callipers with front and rear discs measuring 390mm and 370mm, respectively.

Due to the Balance of Performance restrictions (which allow competing vehicles to maintain parity by altering various characteristics), Porsche has prioritised enhancing the driveability for both professional and amateur drivers. In addition, the manufacturer has focused on improving the handling of GT3-class racecars and minimising the teamsโ€™ operating expenses.

The new Porsche 911 GT3 R has a substantial body package that not only improves aerodynamics but also gives the racecar its distinctive appearance. It sports a gigantic rear wing that is as tall as the roof and a massive diffuser that contains the exhaust in its centre. Additionally, its front and rear wheel arches feature massive air vents. It is equipped with 18-inch, one-piece alloy wheels.

The GT3 Rโ€™s front end is equipped with a large splitter and two canards on each side of the bumper. In addition, it features LED headlights created for the 963 LMDh prototypes. These lights use a collimator technology that โ€œfunctions similarly to a magnifying glass, but in reverse.โ€

The 911 GT3 Rโ€™s race seat now is situated further inwards, allowing Porsche to adopt an improved roll cage design and the FIAโ€™s new side impact protection. There is also a 10.3-inch display behind the steering wheel that adopts the Le Manโ€™s class winnerโ€™s multiple-switch design.
