Warring princes William and Harry, along with their wives Kate and Meghan, have appeared for a remarkable walk at Winstall Castle to reunite Queen Elizabeth II.

The four walked together to greet mourners – Harry and Meghan were apparently invited by the new Prince of Wales to join him and Kate. Royal observers have described it as a “big moment” for the brothers that could mark the end of their feud.

For Meghan Markle, the walk marks another step in her re-entry into the royal family following the Queen’s death.

The quartet’s unexpected display of solidarity came after King Charles mentioned his “love” for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in his maiden speech on Friday.

The Sussexes walked down the driveway from Windsor Castle, west of London, to join the newly formed Prince and Princess of Wales.

Harry and Meghan held hands when the crowd initially cheered.

The four then went to talk to well-wishers and watch the flowers from those who came to honor the Queen.

They also read countless tributes to the late monarch.

It was the couple’s first public appearance since the Queen’s death on Thursday.

Meanwhile, King Charles III was proclaimed king in a ceremony at St James’s Palace in London.

Six former British prime ministers, including Boris Johnson, Theresa May, David Cameron, Tony Blair, Gordon Brown and John Major, sat side by side in the front row.

The current Labour leader Keir Starmer and Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon also attended the ceremony.

Those who signed the proclamation document included Prince William of Wales, Queen Camilla, Prime Minister Liz Truss, Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby and President Penny Mordout, who chaired the event.

“Ladies and gentlemen, I regret to inform you that Queen Elizabeth II passed away on Thursday 8th September 2022 at Balmoral Castle,” Mordault said.

Mordaunt has issued 8 orders, which will effectively ensure that news spreads throughout the kingdom.

This included firing gun salutes and orders to issue bulletins in historical publications in London, Edinburgh and Belfast.

King Charles III participated in the second part of the ceremony, the Privy Council meeting.

He said he was well aware of his significant responsibilities and obligations.

“My mother gave an example of lifelong love and selfless service,” said King Charles III.

In his speech, Charles announced the death of his mother, Elizabeth, and said “the whole world sympathizes with my irreparable loss”.

“It is my most saddened duty to announce to you the passing of my beloved mother, the Queen. I know how much you and the whole country go, and I think I can say that the whole world sympathizes with the irreparable loss we have all suffered.

“It is the greatest comfort to me to know the sympathy so many have shown to my sister and my brothers, so such an overwhelming amount of love and support should be given to our whole family as we lose a loved one. All of us as a family.

“My mother’s reign is unparalleled in its duration, devotion and dedication. Even as we grieve, we are grateful for this most faithful life. I am well aware of this great legacy and the sovereign responsibility now past and heavy duty tomes.

“In taking on these responsibilities, I will strive to emulate the inspiring example I have set in upholding constitutionalism and seeking peace, harmony and prosperity for the peoples of these islands and the Commonwealth of Nations and territories around the world.”

Then the king sat down and signed to confirm that he had taken the oath. Camilla, the Queen and Prince William also signed the document.

Charles became king immediately after the death of his mother, Elizabeth II. However, statements and announcements are still needed to formalise his accession over the next few days – the first of which took place at St James’s Palace.

How does joining happen?

As outlined by the British Privy Council, an accession is an event in which a new monarch — in this case Charles — succeeds after the death of his predecessor.

That’s where joining a committee comes in.

The committee includes advisers to the Privy Council – basically advisers to the monarch – as well as the High Commissioner, senior civil servants, the Mayor of London and other figures.

Meetings are usually held at St James’s Palace in London.

What will happen at St James’s Palace?

King Charles’ announcement took place at the State Apartments at St James’s Palace in London.

About 700 people were invited to attend the ceremony.

However, given the short notice period, the number is lower.

Fewer than 200 people attended the ceremony of Queen Elizabeth II on February 8, 1952.

The announcement will be read by the Garter Armoury Lord (currently David White) on a balcony above St James’s Palace Abbey.

He will be accompanied by field marshals and other officials in traditional heraldic clothing.

The announcement will be accompanied by a salute.

The Herald will travel to Mansion House in the City of London to read the announcement at the Royal Exchange.

The announcement will also be read publicly in Edinburgh, Belfast and Cardiff.

In New Zealand, an announcement ceremony will take place tomorrow at 12.30pm at the Parliament grounds.

In the early hours of February 6, 1952, following the death of King George VI, the first part of Queen Elizabeth II’s Accession Commission took place at 5pm on the same day.

The second part had to wait until the Queen returned from Kenya in two days.

What about the coronation of Charles III?

Charles’ coronation could be more than a year away.

The coronation is the formal ceremony in which Charles will be crowned king himself.

Traditionally, coronations are held in Westminster Abbey.

On June 2, 1953, 16 months after her father’s death, Queen Elizabeth II was crowned.
