Prince William paid a touching tribute to his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth.
Carrying the couple’s new titles Prince and Princess of Wales, William took to Instagram to share his grief for the historic monarch to royal followers.
“On Thursday, the world lost an extraordinary leader whose commitment to the country, the kingdom and the Commonwealth was absolute. Much will be said in the coming days about the significance of her historic rule,” he said.
Added: “However, I have lost a grandmother. While I will be saddened by her passing, I am also very grateful. In my fifth decade, I have benefited from the Queen’s wisdom and reassurance.
“My wife has had twenty years of her guidance and support. My three children have to spend the holidays with her and create memories that will last a lifetime.
“She was by my side during my happiest times. She was by my side during the saddest days of my life.
“I know the day will come, but it won’t really become real until life without grandma.”
“I thank her for the kindness she has shown to me and my family. On behalf of my generation, I thank her for providing an example of service and dignity in public life that is timeless but always relevant to all of us.
“My grandmother famously said that grief is the price we pay for love. All the grief we will feel over the next few weeks will be a testament to our love for our extraordinary Queen.
“I will do everything in my power to support my father, the King, in her memory.”
King Charles gave the couple new titles yesterday, as well as his wife Camilla’s new queen title.
As the King assumed his new duties as monarch, he told the nation: “As my heir, William now takes on the Scottish title that means so much to me. He succeeds me as Duke of Cornwall and takes on the responsibilities of the Duchy. Cornwall, I’ve had it for over 5 years,”
He added: “Today I am proud to have created for him Tywysog Cymru, Prince of Wales, and for most of my life and duty I have been privileged to hold this nation’s title.”
“I know that, by Catherine’s side, our new Prince and Princess of Wales will continue to inspire and lead our national conversation, helping to bring marginalized groups to the heart of where vital help can be provided.”
The couple are officially known as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
