Sunset Park Mass Shooting: Social media footage shows TRUE HORROR of subway rampage

At least five people have been shot in Brooklyn after a man wearing a gas mask and orange construction vest opened fire on a packed subway train in Sunset Park during rush hour on Tuesday, April 12. The gunman is said to have hurled a smoke bomb into a southbound R train at the 25th Street Station in Brooklyn and started shooting as the doors began to close. At least five people were shot, including one who is in critical condition.

Wounded passengers were only able to get out of the train carriage at 36th Street, sending bystanders scrambling. Fire department sources say a total of 13 people were injured. Eight of the victims who were taken to NYU Langone-Brooklyn are in stable condition. Five of them are admitted at Maimonides Medical Center, with two being treated for gunshot wounds and three for smoke inhalation. Meanwhile, another three patients injured in the attack are being treated at New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, according to a report by ABC 7.

Disturbing photos and video footage showed wounded passengers laying in puddles of blood on the 36th Street platform as they awaited emergency responders. According to FDNY, multiple undetonated devices were located at the station, but the NYPD said all were smoke devices and inactive. Reports say a bomb squad is working at the scene, which has been cordoned off. Meanwhile, the police are on the hunt for the shooter.

Speaking to New York Post, one witness said the gunman fired “too many rounds to count.” Other sources described the perp as a “5 feet 5 inches tall black man weighing 170 lbs.” One witness told the newspaper, “I thought he was an MTA worker at first because I was like, I didn’t like pay too much attention. You know? You’ve got the orange on.” Meanwhile, an FDNY spokesperson told the Daily Mail, “Originally, the call came in as smoke in the subway station. Upon arrival, officers found multiple people shot and undetonated devices. Thirteen people are injured. This remains an active scene.”

Heartbreaking video footage showed bloody victims writhing on the ground at the subway station as a plume of smoke billowed out of the locomotive. One victim was seen lying on the floor with their hands covering their face and legs raised. Some others lost their belongings and had their clothes torn as the subway’s speaker system gave instructions to the passengers.

“@NYCMayor continues to be briefed on the situation,” Gov. Eric Adams’s spokesman tweeted. “While we gather more information, we ask New Yorkers to stay away from this area for their safety and so that first responders can help those in need and investigate.”

“We are aware of reports of a shooting at 36th St subway station, and we are in touch with our city partners and NYPD on the scene,” NYC Council Member Sunset Park Alexa Aviles wrote, adding, “Please exercise caution and seek alternate travel routes. We will share further details as they become available.” Meanwhile, Senator Kevin Parker commented, “Terrifying report out of Sunset Park. We have to move New York forward and break this cycle of gun violence. Hoping everyone will be ok.” NYC Council Member for Brooklyn Chi Osse added, “Horrifying news to hear this morning. Praying for the safety and recovery of our neighbors in Sunset Park. This madness must end.”
