New BMW 7 Series: external characteristics

The new 7 Series features a striking exterior design with a bigger kidney grille and BMW’s “Iconic Lighting” treatment, which debuted on the 8 Series’ facelift. It also has a split headlight design, with the LED running lights positioned above and the primary beams positioned in a separate recess below. As part of BMW’s endeavour to unify its two luxury automobiles, this design element was previously seen on the facelifted X7 SUV.

Along the flanks, just two feature lines are visible, with the higher one stretching from the furthest tip of the headlights to the taillights. The redesigned 7 has door handles identical to those found on the iX and i4 electric vehicles. The back of the new sedan features horizontal LED taillights that give it the appearance of more width.

The 7 Series’ interior has a brand-new dashboard with a full-width light band, a 12.3-inch instrument display, and a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment display. In addition, there is a redesigned steering wheel with a flat bottom and a conventional iDrive controller. The rear is equipped with an optional 31.3-inch, 8K ‘Cinema’ screen that folds down and supports 16:9, 21:9, and 32:9 video streaming via Amazon Fire TV. This feature has not yet been confirmed for the India-specific variant.

The new 7 Series is based on a highly revised version of BMW‘s CLAR platform, and unlike earlier generations, which were available with either a short or long wheelbase, there is now only one wheelbase. The weight-saving carbon core measures implemented in the previous generation have been scrapped in favour of a new material blend comprised of more conventional steel, aluminium, and titanium.

Internationally, the BMW 7 Series is available with a number of drivetrains, including mild-hybrid gasoline and diesel engines, as well as plug-in hybrid powertrains with an electric range of over 80 kilometres. It is expected that BMW will bring one petrol and one diesel option to India, and as the previous version briefly offered a plug-in hybrid powertrain, BMW may also offer one with this iteration. In India, the all-electric 7 Series, the i7, will likely follow the ICE model.
