This month’s new Urus will debut later.

A record-breaking SUV covered itself in camouflage. The new Urus, driven by Pirelli test driver Simone Faggioli, broke the previous record for the climb set by the Bentley Bentayga in 2018 with a time of 10:32.064. Although the SUV did not participate in the actual race, the time was recorded by the authorised timekeepers.

Technical information on the Lamborghini Urus Pikes Peak race car.

To meet the safety requirements of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, the new Urus was altered. In the passenger compartment, Lamborghini added a roll cage, replaced the standard seats with racing seats that had a six-point harness, and added a fire extinguisher. The twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 was the only component Lamborghini left unaltered for the hill climb. We anticipate that the new Urus will be slightly more powerful than the previous Urus. A plug-in hybrid powertrain is also anticipated to be added to the lineup in 2024.

Additionally, the record-breaking Urus’s tires—285/40 R22 up front and 325/35 R22 down back—were an improvement over its Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R. The semi-slick tires were created by Pirelli in close collaboration with Lamborghini to meet the needs of an SUV. The new tyres are claimed to be more versatile and to perform well on both dry and wet surfaces as a result.

To hide the new Urus’s design, Lamborghini attempted the hill climb with a thick layer of camouflage. According to the pictures, it has new vents on the back quarter panels, redesigned front and rear bumpers, and new louvres on the bonnet. Although they can be seen in the photos, the facelift might only get new alloy wheels for the race car.
