Turks and Caicos Shooting – Several people, including police officers, were shot on Sunday in the Long Bay region, according to the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force. “JUST IN. Several individuals, including police officers, have been shot and injured in the Long Bay area a few seconds ago,” the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force wrote on its official Facebook page around 7 o’clock. A short while later, in a video uploaded to the police department’s Facebook page, Commissioner of Police Trevor Botting advised restraint.
He stated that there had been a firing in the direction of Long Bay earlier in the evening. Police subsequently stopped a car they thought was carrying the suspects. The criminals in the car opened fire on the police during the stop, hitting the police car multiple times and injuring police officers in the process. There are other instances going on, according to the police commissioner, which they are managing. He advised the public to maintain their composure as the police are making every effort to maintain control of the situation.
In the meantime, the Turks and Caicos Islands Hospital said in a media statement Sunday night that a series of circumstances led to the activation of the Emergency Mode status at The Cheshire Hall Medical Center. This was done out of an abundance of caution following shooting incidents in parts of the community remote from the hospital. It advised members of the community to only access the Cheshire Hall Medical Centre in the event of an extreme emergency and stated that the safety of the staff, patients, and their families is their top priority.
It concluded by stating that security and the police are still protecting the personnel and patients at this moment.
