What Did Martin Luther King Jr’s Daughter Say About Will Smith?
Bernice King, the youngest daughter of MLK, talked about the viral slap. She slammed back at the criticism asserting that the behavior of Will Smith was disappointing and as per one user, reinforced the incorrect perception of the Black community. A Black member of the Academy’s board of governors, Roger Ross Williams, allegedly informed The Hollywood Reporter:
“It reinforces stereotypes about Black people, and it just hurts me to my core. Work it out someplace else, not on the stage.” Bernice also wrote on Twitter which reads that “Anybody who thinks “Black People look bad” after the Oscars already thought Black people look foul. Respectability does not cure racism. Be Love, but please do not group of people who did not do so prior to that moment.”
The attorney also analyzed the tweet of The Academy.
She stated: “Condone’ is such an interesting word, frequently wreaking of arrogance or ignorance,” claiming that the root problems should be tackled since the violence that individuals condone could only mean the “the type of violence they are uncomfortable with.”
Bernice called for enlightening the youth about violence- not just physical rather than simply criticizing the situation that happened at the Oscars.
