“Seeing inappropriate objects at a crime scene requires a unique eye; in this case, the thing looks so insignificant that no one even knows what it is or what it means; it takes almost 20 years for a committed investigative team time to find out,” the book’s subtitle reads.

Dateline: Secrets Uncovered – Who is Robin Hoynes and what happened to her?

In 1984, Robin Lucille Hoynes, a 21-year-old Whittier native, was hired as an assistant manager by the KFC Fried Chicken Company in Torrance, California. On October 30, 1984, she was brutally murdered by former colleague William Charles Marshall.

Horns allowed Marshall to enter after getting off work the night of the murder because she was completing paperwork, on the pretext that he picked up his briefcase and took off his uniform after being fired for allegedly stealing money. Hoynes was assassinated in a surprise attack by Marshall, who had come to loot the location.

The victim of Robin Hoynes’ murder had two stab wounds to the back, one fatal and the other potentially fatal, according to the medical examiner. At or shortly after her death, her throat was cut.

Cheryl Fuller, another assistant manager at the fast food restaurant, switched shifts with Hoynes that night, and Hoynes’ body was found the next day.

How Robin Hoynes’ killer was caught

Although William Marshall was the prime suspect in Hoynes’ killing, no charges were laid against him at the time, so he was detained and eventually released. Additionally, Marshall’s alibi failed to place him at the crime scene that night.

With the help of his then-girlfriend, Marshall managed to escape justice for more than 20 years without sufficient evidence to prosecute him.

Did Stacey Schenker pay the killer to kill her fifth husband Richard Schenker, according to a secret discovery from Dateline?

His ex-girlfriend Yvonne Williams also gave evidence against him in court and detailed the crime. As early as 1984, Marshall informed her of the stabbing and asked her to defend him. After Hoynes’ death, the drug addicts stayed together for another three years.

After four weeks of testimony, a jury finally found Marshall guilty of killing Hoynes in 2007, and he was sentenced to life without parole.
