2LT William “Billy” Kilmon was tragically killed in a vehicle accident over the weekend near Fort Benning, Ga. He had recently completed Infantry Basic Officer Leadership Course and Airborne School and was awaiting a report date for Ranger School. 2LT Kilmon commissioned in Dec. 2021 from West Virginia University where he earned a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering and was designated a Distinguished Military Graduate as one of the top 20% of all of the Cadets in the nation. He was the son of LTC (Ret.) Scott and Dawn Kilmon of Havre de Grace, Md.
“On behalf of the Cadets and cadre of the Mountaineer Battalion, I’d like to offer my sincere condolences to the family and friends of 2LT Billy Kilmon. Billy touched many of us during his tenure in Morgantown. He was a hard worker, a talented athlete, and an outstanding student,” said Lt. Col. David, Sherck, professor of Military Science. “He was a standout Ranger Challenge performer for several years, served as the Battalion supply officer (S-4) and was also the Push-Up Platform team captain for home football games during his senior year. 2LT Kilmon will be sorely missed by all those he touched, but we should take solace that he was able to achieve his long-term goal of becoming a U.S. Army Infantry officer before his unfortunate passing.”
