YouTube Vanced used to be a popular modification of YouTube. It adds a bunch of features to the official YouTube app, including built-in ad blocking, background playback, dark/dark themes, and more. Note, however, that YouTube Vanced has been retired on March 13, 2022. You can check out other recommended YouTube Vanced alternatives. The following articles are reserved for archival purposes.
Use the advanced manager
The YouTube Vanced team came up with a new, easier way to get Vanced to work. Users only need to install the Vanced Manager app, which will make the process of installing MicroG and YouTube Vanced easier. Vanced Music, a similarly modified version of YouTube Music, is also supported since version 1.3.0. The app makes it easy to choose the theme you want and install future updates.
While Vanced Manager is still the recommended way to install and manage a modified YouTube instance, advanced users may want more control over the installation process. If you want to install YouTube Vanced without Vanced Manager, follow these steps:
How to install without Vanced Manager
As of v0.2.12-203316, Vanced MicroG has a special “Huawei” button in the login wizard. If you’re running a Huawei (and Honor) device that doesn’t come with Google Play Services by default, but you sideload them later, you can still use this option to log into your YouTube/Google login account when modifying apps with Vanced .
If you’re planning to ditch the default YouTube app in favor of Vanced, you may have questions about some aspects of this mod that you want to clarify. Here are some frequently asked questions about Vanced – from the difference between non-root and root variants to how to download videos. If you can’t find an answer to your question here, feel free to leave it in the comments section below. If relevant, we will reply and add it to this section.
Which Vanced variant should I choose: root or non-root?
In terms of user experience, there is little difference between root and non-root builds.
Root variant: Vanced’s root variant seamlessly replaces the official YouTube app. This allows you to open YouTube links directly or use the Google Assistant to access them through a modified app.
Non-root variant: However, if you have a device that is difficult to root, or don’t want to root the daily driver in the first place, then you should opt for the non-root variant. It can also be installed on rooted devices. Since the non-root variant has a different package name than the standard YouTube app, they can coexist.
Note that you will need to install an additional companion app (MicroG) to log in with your YouTube/Google account. Also, you need to manually set Vanced as the default app to open YouTube links. However, the non-root version is easier to use, so we recommend sticking with the non-root version unless you really need to replace the default YouTube app on your phone.
Are Vanced and YouTube Premium the same?
Do not! YouTube Premium (formerly YouTube Red) is a subscription-based service from Google that provides ad-free access to the entire service’s content, as well as access to premium YouTube Originals, video downloads, and video background playback on mobile devices. And access the music streaming service YouTube Music.
Vanced, on the other hand, is a heavily modified version of the standard YouTube app that doesn’t require any subscription. However, it has many features, such as ad blocking, background playback, and more, which cannot be used without a YouTube Premium subscription.
Can I download videos with Vanced?
Google officially allows downloading videos from YouTube for offline viewing in these countries. Therefore, if you are not in one of the supported countries, you must purchase YouTube Premium or use a third-party app to download videos.
Vanced itself does not change the downloader implemented by YouTube. Therefore, depending on your region and restrictions imposed by the video publisher, you may not have the option to download some videos.
How to disable battery optimization for Vanced and MicroG for Vanced?
