Tinubu, Makinde, Others South-West Governors to Gather in Ibadan for Historic Premier Hotel Relaunch

As per a report from The Nation on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, together with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and other governors from the South-West, is scheduled to officially inaugurate the renovated Premier Hotel in Ibadan on Thursday, June 25, 2026.

This occasion signifies the conclusion of a significant redevelopment effort executed by Odu’a Investment Company to rejuvenate the historic hotel and convert it into a contemporary hospitality center.

President Tinubu is anticipated to be present as the Special Guest of Honour, whereas Governor Makinde will take up the role of Chief Host.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, who is the chair of the South-West Governors’ Forum, will serve as the Lead Host.

Among those expected to attend the event are Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State, Abiodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State, and Ademola Adeleke of Osun State.

Located on Mokola Hill in Ibadan, Premier Hotel has stood as one of the city’s key landmarks for over sixty years.

The hotel was initially founded by the former Western Region Government via the Western Nigeria Development Corporation, forming part of Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s ambitious plan for industrial and economic development in the early 1960s.

Opened in 1963 under the name WNTV/WTBS Hotel, it was set up to facilitate the functions of Western Nigeria Television and Western Nigeria Television Service.

It also offered housing for government officials, business leaders, and international guests.

During that period, the hotel was considered one of the first modern high-rise hospitality venues outside of Lagos, representing the Western Region’s commitment to modernization and economic progress.

Over time, Premier Hotel played host to many notable visitors, including presidents, governors, diplomats, and entertainers, reinforcing its status as an important site in Ibadan.

After it changed from WNTV Hotel to Premier Hotel, the operations were taken over by Odu’a Investment Company, which succeeded the Western Nigeria Development Corporation.

The comprehensive renovations are aimed at reviving the hotel’s historical significance while establishing it as a top hospitality and tourism venue in the South-West region.
