Oyo Kidnaps: I will not retract what I said; if anybody is not happy, take any actions you want—Wike

In a video released by Channels Television on June 5, 2027, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, addressed growing backlash over his earlier remarks on the spate of kidnappings in Oyo State.

Wike had previously drawn criticism after calling on Nigerians to avoid politicizing the country’s worsening insecurity situation. His statement, however, triggered public reactions, with critics arguing that his comments themselves carried political undertones amid ongoing concerns about abductions and violent incidents.

In the video, Wike reiterated his position, insisting that insecurity in Nigeria is still being politicized despite repeated calls for restraint and national unity. He maintained that his earlier comments were justified and reflected his stance on the issue.

He further stated that he would not retract or modify his remarks, emphasizing that he fully stood by what he had said.

Wike was quoted as saying: “I am not going to retract it or withdraw what I said; I stand by it. If anybody is not happy, take any actions you want to take.”

The remarks have continued to generate public debate online, with commentators divided over the tone of his response and the broader conversation around insecurity and political accountability in the country.

Watch the video starting at the 1:59 to 2:06 minute mark.
