In a recent video shared on Monday, June 1, 2027, former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose spoke about the strength of Nigeria’s opposition parties and the prospects of the major contenders ahead of the 2027 presidential election. Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Fayose argued that the inability of opposition leaders to remain united could significantly weaken their chances of unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
During the discussion, Fayose reflected on the political developments that have shaped the opposition movement since the last general election. He noted that several opposition figures command substantial support across different regions of the country, but questioned whether they possess the unity required to challenge an incumbent president effectively.
Speaking on the issue, Fayose stated, “They could not even stay together as the opposition, so how will they win?” According to him, opposition parties often struggle with internal disagreements, competing ambitions, and differing political strategies, making it difficult to build a strong coalition capable of winning a national election.
He argued that successful political movements require more than popularity, stressing that coordination, trust, and a shared vision are essential ingredients for victory. Fayose maintained that opposition leaders must first resolve their internal differences before presenting themselves as a credible alternative to the electorate.
The former governor further noted that Nigerian voters tend to evaluate not only candidates but also the stability of the political platforms behind them. In his view, divisions within opposition ranks could discourage voters seeking certainty and continuity.
Fayose concluded by expressing confidence that unless opposition leaders develop a united front and agree on a common strategy, they may struggle to convince Nigerians that they are prepared to govern effectively after the 2027 election.
