A viral video showing a suspected bandit displaying large sums of money allegedly obtained from kidnapping operations has sparked widespread reactions across social media platforms, prompting a response from the Presidency.
The footage resurfaced online amid growing public concern over insecurity following the reported abduction of students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. The incident generated intense discussions among Nigerians, many of whom expressed outrage over the continued activities of criminal groups involved in kidnappings across various parts of the country.
As the video gained traction, questions emerged regarding its authenticity and whether it was connected to the recent kidnapping incident in Oyo State. In response to the growing speculation, Dada Olusegun, Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Social Media, addressed the matter through a statement posted on his official X account.
According to the presidential aide, the video currently circulating on social media is not a recent recording and should not be linked to ongoing security developments. He stated that the individual featured in the footage had already been neutralized by Nigerian security forces.
In his post, Olusegun wrote:”Old video. The bandit in this video has been eliminated by the armed forces”.The clarification was aimed at correcting what he described as misinformation surrounding the video’s timing and relevance to recent events. His statement quickly attracted reactions from social media users, with some welcoming the clarification while others called for continued efforts to tackle kidnapping and banditry across the country.
